On my last trip to Bangalore, a visit to Mother Earth made me realize how much I had missed out on during all my previous trips to the city. It was like Disney Land for me, the moment I stepped into the Koramangala branch of Mother Earth in Bangalore. They had everything that I like – ceramic ware, hand painted coffee mugs, block printed upholstery, curtains, organic food, colourful cotton clothes with vegetable dyes and curious to take back home. Mother Earth in Bangalore has three to four floors of unique household items that you’d want to lay your hands on. If you’re moving into a new apartment or want to give a face lift to your otherwise mundane look, then hop into Mother Earth and give your home and life a makeover.
We had driven down from Kerala to Bangalore in our SUV and I had ample of space to carry all that I wanted. I helped myself to a shopping basket and started picking up coffee mugs, tea cups, serving bowls, table mats – whatever I could lay my hands on. I was a five year old in a toy shop, I wanted everything!
When I got back home and offered my guests tea/ coffee in these colourful cups or served a meal in these colourful bowls, I did notice them giving an admiring glance at these darlings from Mother Earth.
Mother Earth is a one stop shop for not only your household needs, but a home to unique gift items to take back home. Colourful table mats, wall hangings, serving trays and much more. If you are going to travel a long distance, you can always ask them to bubble wrap the ceramic ware for you.
You could also pick up Aromatherapie and Tradition Soaps by Nature , that is manufactured by Auronature, Edayanchavadi Village. These soaps are of 100% natural vegetable hand made soaps infused with glycerine made from a cold process method. These soaps are free of synthetic colours, perfume, preservatives and detergents. While these soaps are 100% biodegradable, they are not tested on animals and that is a feather on the cap and I recommend buying these soaps. They come in different aromas like – Tulis (Holy Basil), Sandal, Lavender, Aloe Vera and Lemon Grass. Both the scent and the soap is mild and leaves you refreshed with a glowing skin. However, applying a body lotion or a face cream is recommended, as for some it may cause drying. Otherwise, this soap is perfect for all seasons and all skin types.
Since shopping burns enough calories to make you thirsty and hungry and Mother Earth seems to know the women psyche exactly. Especially if you are shopping with your husband and/or children who may not dig into this kind of shopping, then their cute little restaurant is just the place. I helped myself to a sinful slice of chocolate pastry that I so reluctantly shared with my husband. But then, the sweetheart that he was, he spent those few hours patiently with me at Mother Earth, as even a non-shopper like him found Mother Earth to be fantastic!
You may think that Mother Earth is similar to Fab India, but let me assure you, there is a vast difference between the two brands even though they are based on similar lines like handloom/ pure cotton and silk fabrics, cottage industries and handmade furniture. There is a difference in the attitude of the staff, Fab India is way more snooty and more expensive than Mother Earth (Bangalore). More so, Mother Earth has made its own niche with unique colours and designs that adds character and style to their ceramic ware and pottery that you may not get in Fab India.
